Week in Review 12/9 – 12/15 with a Giveaway

December 15, 2018 by Suzie Waltner 25 Comments

Week in Review

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you are settling into the holidays and knocking things off of those long lists of to-dos. I have a long one myself but I plan to make a good dent in it this weekend! It was a little bit slower week here at Remembrancy. Between holiday lists and some other commitments I just haven’t had as much reading time. I’m watching a friend’s dog at her place this weekend and house sitting always equals fewer chores and more reading for me. It’s a bit like a vacation for me just because I don’t have all of the distractions of my own home calling to me.

The good news is there were a few giveaways for you to enter this week and, of course, I’ve got one to share with you too! Click on the image to go to the review/giveaway posts.

Our Christmas traditions are simple. Eating a really big meal together as family and simple gifts to each other.

We watch Christmas movies together as our tradition! It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol by George C. Scott are two of our favorites. Then whatever ones we catch on TV or I check out from the library. 🙂

Thank you for the giveaway chance!

One of my favourite traditions is buying an ornament for each of our girls every year. We try to find ones that somehow speak to their talents, interests or hobbies that year. It’s great to look over them every year and remember the memories.

Decorating the tree with ornaments from my childhood, baking cookies with my daughters, and walking the neighborhood known for the best Christmas lights and decorations.

One of our traditions is placing a huge navel orange in the toe of each of our Christmas stockings. It’s a tradition that has been happening in our family since I was a child.

Favorite traditions? Making goodie plates for our neighbors, live nativities, Christmas performances by local theatre and dance groups (this year was Babes in Toyland, A Christmas Carol, and Nutcracker), and celebrating Advent!

Our large family goes to my oldest daughter’s house for a get together on Christmas Eve. We always have takeout fried chicken and pizza. And of course homemade Christmas cookies and fruitcake.

My very favorite time of the year is when our family reads the Christmas Story from the Bible before opening gifts.

We usually make an event of decorating the tree while watching a Christmas movie, then follow that up with hot chocokate.

Ever since I was kid, we would watch White Christmas on Thanksgiving night. Now that I’m an adult, my husband watches it with me even though he doesn’t particularly like it

One of my favorite traditions growing up was not putting the baby Jesus in the nativity scene under our tree until Christmas morning. It was a good reminder of the reason we were celebrating.
