Valentines reads

The title of this book alone should intrigue you this time of year. And if the title doesn’t grab you, the beautiful book cover will. As we turn our calendars to February, we celebrate love and romance on the fourteenth and heart health all month long. Courtney Walsh’s novel is the perfect Valentine’s read. Abigail Pressman has big plans for her future—plans that don’t include falling in love. She is content to expand her bookstore. But her dream is just out of reach. When she gets a new landlord, a doctor who wants to start a practice in the space Abigail hoped to obtain, her dreams and plans are even further away. Bring in the Valentine Volunteers—a group of women who stamp the town’s name and romantic postmark on Valentines and anniversary cards, wedding invitations, and anything else people care to send to the romantic town of Loves Park. This group of women also take it upon themselves to match the unmatchable in the town, and Abigail is their newest project (unbeknownst to her). They rope her into helping and she comes across a string of paper hearts with messages printed on them. She is captivated by these hearts and wants to get her hands on more. Who is the anonymous couple who started the tradition? Someone she knows? Why do the latest batch of the hearts seem ominous—like something horrible happened to the couple? This couple was her hope that true love—love through the good times and the bad times—exists.

Through a quirky cast of characters—the Valentine Volunteers offer plenty of laughs throughout the book—and humor, Paper Hearts is the perfect rom-com. Despite her best efforts to hate her new landlord, Abigail is attracted to him. And through her efforts to save her store, she comes to realize that maybe what she’s always done with her life is not what God has in store for her life. There’s a little element of You’ve Got Mail in this one and lots of the fun stuff we love from romantic comedies—comic relief, misunderstandings between our hero and heroine, realizations about our main characters, and an epic romance. This is one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. Definitely one to add to your list.
