A Match Made in Texas

Tess Buckton returns to the Blue Thorn Ranch from Australia, badly needing Texas comfort. But the Outback follows her home when celebrity Aussie horse trainer Cooper Pine rents the ranch next door. The other Buckton siblings are worried Cooper’s high profile will upset the idyllic Martins Gap community—but Tess isn’t so sure. Cooper is surprisingly down-to-earth and a doting father to his special-needs daughter. But getting close enough to learn his secrets could mean exposing hers, and Tess isn’t ready for that—even if Cooper and his matchmaking daughter are just what her heart is yearning for.

Review: Heart on the Line by Karen Witemeyer

June 1, 2017 by Suzie Waltner Leave a Comment

What a unique and fun read from Karen Witemeyer! Those who read No Other Will Do (the first book of the Ladies of Harper’s Station series) already have an introduction to many of the lovable residents of the town.

In Heart on the Line, readers get a peek into the lives of telegraph operators. And what a peek it was!

My favorite part of this book was the secret language Grace and Amos had developed in their careers. Another fun angle was that Amos isn’t your typical romance hero. He prefers riding a bicycle over a horse, wears glasses, and is mocked by women in his hometown.

Review: The Bull Rider’s Homecoming by Allie Pleiter

Book review

Will the drive for fame and fortune ruin his future happiness?

Luke Buckton’s plan to return to his hometown of Martins Gap, Texas, is derailed by one fateful ride. The only person he trusts to get him back in shape and ready to ride again is the one person who has the most reason to hate him—Ruby Sheldon.

When an injury brings her a new client in the form of the man who broker her heart, Physical Therapist Ruby Sheldon is set on proving she’s over him. Luke always had a special hold on her. But he also left without a backward glance.

There are a lot of connecting themes woven throughout The Bull Rider’s Homecoming—family, seeking fame and glory instead of God, healing, love, and letting go of one dream to realize a greater one.

And Allie Pleiter handles each one brilliantly while giving readers glimpses into the excitement and danger of Luke’s chosen profession as well as the tension between two people bent on protecting their bruised hearts.

The Bull Rider’s Homecoming is an enjoyable and thought-provoking ride.

Book Review: Deep Extraction by DiAnn Mills

March 28, 2017 by Suzie Waltner Leave a Comment

My Review

What happens when a case hits close?

In Deep Extraction by DiAnn, that’s the exact question FBI Special Agent Tori Templeton and reinstated Deputy US Marshal Cole Jeffers wrestle with as they investigate a murder.

As the two uncover unbelievable hidden truths about a man they called friend, they struggle with the possibility a member of his family might have killed him. Not to mention the growing attraction between Tori and Cole.

Both of these characters are tough, no-nonsense law enforcement agents but both also have fears they deal with daily.

The body count rises without a break in the case which keeps the FBI task force (as well as readers) scrambling to find the answer.  I loved that there were a couple extra surprises at the end of the book.

The Rancher’s Texas Twins by Allie Pleiter

The Rancher’s Texas Twins by Allie Pleiter (Available everywhere 2/21/17)

About the book

Double Trouble

Rancher Gabe Everett will do whatever it takes to keep Avery Culpepper in Texas until the end of the month. Even if it means inviting the beautiful single mom and her mischievous twin girls to stay on his property. Avery holds the key to saving Haven’s boys ranch, but Gabe won’t let his interest go beyond business. He’s not a family man, and Avery needs someone who will be there for her and her daughters. Yet as the girls overrun his orderly ranch with their tea parties and girlie cuteness, Gabe finds himself softening just a little. Could a family to love be exactly what this solitary rancher needs?

My thoughts

I’ve heard it said that puppies and babies sell. In my opinion, toddlers who get into mischief and speak their minds like only kids can make great fodder for stories. Allie Pleiter doubles the trouble with twin four-year-old girls, and some of the fun they get into is delightful.

Gabe Everett is a stoic rancher who likes to be alone but when his house is invaded by “pinkness,” the girls, as well as readers, get some giggles out of the arrangement. It was endearing to read about this big, handsome rancher having a tea party with the twins. Even though he claims to be a loner, the small humans—and their mother—become as much a part of him as the land and the boys’ ranch he’s doing his best to keep alive.

A fun story filled with the antics of the twins, the doubts of a woman who has known too much loss, and a man who is determined to keep his distance despite his change of heart.
