First Line Friday: Valentines Edition: The Lost Castle

February 16, 2018 by Suzie Waltner 15 Comments

Happy Friday and welcome back to a special edition of First Line Friday. This week, we’re focusing on romance.

Know what screams romance to me? Castles, Fairy tales, and three stories through the ages. You can find all of those and so much more in Kristy Cambron’s first book in her new series. You can check out my full review here.

First Line

About the Book

Can't Wait Wednesday Lost CastleLaunching a brand-new series, Kristy Cambron explores the collision of past and present as she discovers the ruins of a French castle, long lost to history.

A thirteenth century castle, Chateau de Doux Reves, has been forgotten for generations, left to ruin in a storybook forest nestled deep in France’s picturesque Loire Valley. It survived a sacking in the French Revolution, was brought back to life and fashioned into a storybook chateau in the Gilded Age, and was eventually felled and deserted after a disastrous fire in the 1930s.

As Ellie Carver sits by her grandmother’s bedside, she hears stories of a castle . . . of lost love and a hidden chapel that played host to a secret fight in the World War II French resistance. But her grandmother is quickly slipping into the locked-down world of Alzheimer’s, and Ellie must act fast if she wants to uncover the truth of her family’s history.

Sparked by the discovery of a long forgotten family heirloom, Ellie embarks on a journey to French wine country to uncover the mystery surrounding The Sleeping Beauty–the castle so named for Charles Perrault’s beloved fairy tale–and unearth its secrets before they’re finally silenced by time.

Set in three different time periods–the French Revolution, World War II, and present day–The Lost Castle is a story of loves won and lost, of battles waged, and an enchanted castle that inspired the epic fairy tales time left behind.

First Line Friday (New Year’s Edition)

December 29, 2017 by Suzie Waltner 11 Comments

We made it through Christmas. Some of you may still be enjoying a nice long holiday break while others (like me) are back to the daily grind. But, with another holiday to look forward to, the week didn’t seem as long!

This week we’re celebrating New Years. Who knew finding a book on my bookshelf with that theme would be so hard to find. I ended up reverting to a simpler, less complicated time with a beloved children’s character: Winnie the Pooh!

Check out the first line of Happy New Year, Pooh! below, comment with the first line of the book nearest you, then hop on over to the Hoarding Books Blog to check out what everyone else is sharing this week!

First Line Friday

First Line(s):

It was January 1st, the very first day of the year, and Pooh woke up bright and early. “It’s a brand-new year!” he exclaimed. Then his tummy gave a little rumble. “No wonder I’m hungry, he said as he climbed out of bed. “I haven’t eaten since last year!”

I’m guessing weight loss isn’t on Pooh’s resolutions list! May this next year be filled with love, laughter, memories, and lots of fabulous books for each of you!

About the book:

But after rancher Barrett Thorn rescues her from an attack, the handsome widowed cowboy seems to feel responsible for her. That is, until he discovers she’s from the family that he’ll never forgive for his wife’s death. As the threats against Shelby escalate, cowboy honor and an unexpected attraction keep Barrett by her side, even at his own risk. And since Shelby won’t back down, Barrett must protect the brave, loyal woman he has no business falling for…a woman someone wants to kill by Christmas.

It’s the first Friday of November (can you believe we’re on the downside of another year?). This week I’m featuring a Romantic Suspense that I was thrilled to hear about it. Fans of Lisa Harris’s Nikki Boyd series get to find out the story behind Sarah Boyd’s (Nikki’s sister) disappearance. While Nikki makes appearances in the book, the main characters are the investigators working the Angel Abductor case.

Without further ado, I present to you:

Vanishing Point Lisa Harris

First Line (Prologue): She could read the satisfaction in her abductor’s face.
