Last year I learned about a local grocery store that has double and triple coupon sales about once a month and a friend of mine told me about a great website that showed you all kinds of local deals. So, at the beginning of 2010, I decided I was going to try and see how much money I could save between coupons and earning cash and prizes off of the internet. Well, it’s the beginning of March and, to date, I’ve saved $400.00. Pretty good considering the fact that I am single and really don’t do THAT much shopping.

So, I thought I’d share some of the ways you can save money. I will include links to everything at the bottom of this blog for you to use.

The first, and probably the biggest is using coupons at the grocery stores. A couple of the local stores will double coupons up to 50 cents and there are several website from which you can print coupons.  The website I use to get the best deals locally is www.faithfulprovisions.com. She does a great job of breaking down the sales at Publix, Kroger, Harris Teeter, CVS, Target, Walgreens and Walmart (and she gives you links to the other sites for even more deals).

Another way I have found to make a little money is using rebate sites online that pay you a percentage of cash back. If you do any shopping online, this is a great way to go because you earn a little money back every time you shop.

Finally, there are several websites online that either pay you or reward you for using their site to link to other sites, to read emails or to do internet searches. It takes a little bit of time but it all pays out in the end.

So, if you are looking for ways to earn and/or save a little money, those are just a few. Look around and you may find other deals.

I have been thinking a lot lately about how our selfish society becomes even more selfish with the use of blogs, facebook, twitter and myspace. I know it’s funny that I mention this on my own blog :).

For those of you who are on facebook all hours of the day, I do not need to know when and where you are going to eat dinner or how many hours of sleep you got last night and I really don’t need 20 posts from you a day. Facebook is nice because you are able to get messages out to a lot of people at once but those who tell me what farm or zoo animals they need all day long are on my last nerve.

In a society that teaches people to take care of number one, the information super highway just adds to that teaching. I mean, most of my posts on FB are about what is going on with me in my life but what if we started sharing about one person that is less fortunate than us? What is we asked people to pray for those who are hurting or lost? Wouldn’t that be a better use of this thing we call social networking?

 Living Life in the Zone is a 40 day devotional for men. Focusing on many different areas in a man’s life, the book covers all bases including marriage, fatherhood, working relationships and Spiritual relationships.

The book is structured specifically for sports fans with each chapter consisting of a coach’s corner which is a brief overview of the chapter, a game plan which list specific scripture verses relating to the issue being discussed, a playmakers section which highlights sports personalities who are living that example, a time out which consists of discussion or reflection questions and today’s assignment which is a challenge to the reader.

The highlight of the book was definitely the glimpse into many sports figures personal lives. Some of the people highlighted in the book were Larry Bird, Coach Bobby Bowden, Coach Bear Bryant, Coach Tony Dungy, Roger Staubach, Magic Johnson, Kurt Warner and Michael Jordan.

There are additional discussion questions at the end of the book which would be helpful aids for a group study. With the easy to read format, the homework would be minimal for those involved in a group study but the questions will allow men to delve more deeply into each of the topics presented.
