First Line Fridays: Risking Love by Toni Shiloh

July 5, 2019 by Suzie Waltner 11 Comments

Happy Friday! Who took it off and who is working today? I’m at the office today but at least it’s Friday and I get another day off tomorrow!

Does anyone else have a hard time choosing which line to share every week? There are so many great books and when I think I’ve got a good one, it amuses me that a few of you are also sharing that same first line (but sometimes we spread it out between prologues and first chapters, too).

This week I’m sharing the first two lines from Toni Shiloh’s newest read.

About the Book

Nikki lives with a perfect trifecta of noes. No guys. No dates. No way. After years of keeping men at bay, Nikki Gordon has it down to a science. No one, not even the sweet, hunky Shorty Smalls can change her mind. Period. So if she’s got it all figured out, why does her heart sink to her toes when she sees Shorty with another woman?
Read Risking Love today and see what happens when you risk your heart to the care of a good man.

Happy Friday! My first line is also from “Risking Love” by Toni Shiloh:

    “Welcome to The Maple…Pit.”

See what I mean about the difficulty of finding a unique first line?

I’m off today! 🙂 I’m currently reading Hello Again by Heather Tullis and the first line is “Piper listened as the Croods avoided being squashed or eaten by a bevy or prehistoric animals.” I’m about halfway through and enjoying it so far!

I had noticed two or more people often share the same first line. It does make me more inclined to pick up the book when I know others are reading and enjoying it.

I’m sharing from Sing a New Song by Candee Fick on my blog, which is a fun contemporary romance. I’ve just started reading Across the Blue by Carrie Turansky, which is set in England in 1909. Here’s the first line:

“Isabella Grayson’s shoes sank into the plush red carpet of Broadlands’ south hall, and she released a soft sigh. What luxury!”

Its about the early days of aviation, and I’m enjoying it. Have a great weekend!

I do think it is kind of silly to not get the 5th off if the 4th is a Thursday. It just seems wrong, doesn’t it? Everyone is exhausted from the fireworks and food, and being outside in the heat. Surely they could call it a ‘Physical and Mental Health Day’, no? 🙂

Happy Friday, have a lovely weekend.

I’m sharing the first lines from The Number of Love by Roseanna M. White: “The numbers marched across the page in a glory all their own.” Have a great weekend and happy reading!
