Over the past year, I’ve become a fan of audiobooks. Now, I listen to a good portion of my TBR while sitting at my desk at the office. This week, I was told by my coworkers that I kept laughing. Why? I’m glad you asked. It was because I was listening to Mary Connealy’s new release and all of her books just make me happy!
So this week, I’m sharing the first line from The Unexpected Champion.
About the Book
City dweller John McCall never expected to be out in the High Sierras of 1868 on a wild-goose chase to find the Chiltons’ supposedly lost grandson. But now that he’s out here, things have gotten even more complicated, mostly due to wildcat Penny Scott. She’s not like any woman he’s ever met–comfortable in the woods, with a horse, and with a gun.
When Penny and John are taken against their will by a shadowy figure looking for evidence they don’t have, both realize they’ve stumbled into something dangerous and complicated. With their friends and family desperately searching for them, Penny and John must make a daring escape.
When they emerge back into the real world, they are confronted with a kidnapper who just won’t stop. They must bring a powerful, ruthless man to justice, even as this city man and country woman fight a very inconvenient attraction to each other.
Are you a fan of humor in your books? Now it’s your turn! Grab the book nearest you and drop the first line in the comments. Then head over to Hoarding Books and discover what others are sharing this week!
Great choice! I loved this series, and this book is a great roundup to it. And it can be read just as well as a stand alone novel, in case anyone is worried they need to read the other two first! But if you read this last, I’m pretty sure you’ll want to read the others. 🙂
Happy Friday and Weekend! My first line is from “Castle on the Rise” by Kristy Cambron:
“Fairy-tale weddings never included rain on the guest list. Or snow – and they had both.”
My first line comes from Almost Home by Valerie Fraser Luesse — Anna Williams leaned out the truck window and let the wind blow her damp auburn hair away from her face.
Have a great weekend!
I love Mary’s books! 🙂 I’m sharing the first line from Entanglements over on my blog which is a story I am currently reading, so I’ll share with you the first line from Chapter 8:
Dinner assuaged a bit of Esther’s guilt.
Nic and Esther!! Swoon!
Thank you for sharing!
My first line is from On Magnolia Lane by Denise Hunter; Jack McReady had fallen in love with Daisy in one-hour increments.
Have a great weekend!
Blessings~
My first line is from Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan:
“From the very beginning it was the Great Lion who brought us together.”
Happy reading!

Happy Friday evening!
I’m sharing the first line from Tomorrow’s First Light by Naomi Rawlings over on my blog: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/03/07/first-line-friday-78/.
I’m just getting into the book, so I’ll share the first line from chapter 2 here:
“You’re really planning to get married?”
Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading! ❤
I just finished the 2nd book in the series, and I’m so looking forward to reading this! I’m sharing from Katherine Wentworth by D.E. Stevenson on my blog today. Here’s a semi-random sentence from the e-book page I’m on:
“All around us were the rolling hills, one behind the other as far as eye could see; they were like huge green billows in a rough Atlantic gale, which had suddenly frozen into a state of immobility. Later they would be clad in heather, purple as the robes of a king.”
Happy reading and have a wonderful Friday and Weekend !
Sorry I didn’t make it around earlier this weekend! This week on my blog I featured Night Road by Kristin Hannah but I’m currently reading Finally Accepted by Toni Shiloh. I’ll share the first line from my current chapter (6) here: “Chloe sat out on her apartment deck with a cup of herbal tea and her Bible.” Hope you had a great weekend!
Oh, another one on my March TBR (Finally Accepted, that is).
