Happy New Year! It’s usually a bit of a challenge for me to get rolling back into my schedule after the holidays but I think I’m there now. It helped that several new releases hit the shelves on New Years Day! Have you read any of them yet?
With all of those new releases, I had plenty of choices for today but I’m going with an author who always makes me laugh. Jen Turano puts her characters in some of the most uncomfortable, memorable, hilarious situations, and I am looking forward to seeing what she’s got in store for Miss Isadora Delafield and Mr. Ian McKenzie in her newest release.
About the Book
Miss Isadora Delafield may be an heiress, but her life is far from carefree. When her mother begins pressuring her to marry an elderly and uncouth duke, she escapes from the high society world she’s always known and finds herself to be an unlikely candidate for a housekeeper position in rural Pennsylvania.
Mr. Ian MacKenzie is known for his savvy business sense and has built his reputation and fortune completely on his own merits. But when his adopted parents are in need of a new housekeeper and Isadora is thrown into his path, he’s unexpectedly charmed by her unconventional manner.
Neither Isadora nor Ian expected to find the other so intriguing, but when mysterious incidents on the farm and the truth of Isadora’s secret threaten those they love, they’ll have to set aside everything they thought they wanted for a chance at happy-ever-after.
Now it’s your turn to grab the book nearest you and share the first line in the comments. Then head over to Hoarding Books to check out the others!
Happy New Year!
My first lines come from a book I’m reading now, The Marriage Bargain by Stephanie Dees….
Cameron Quinn looked around the tiny town of Red Hill Springs. Big pots of pansies, twinkle lights in the trees lining the streets……apparently the basketball team at the local high school was doing well this year–the storefronts were full of team spirit. It had charm, he guessed, if you were a person who liked that down-home kind of stuff.
He wasn’t.
Have an awesome weekend and happy reading!
I plan to get started on that Stephanie Dees series this weekend!!
It’s really good! I hope you love it too!❤
Well now! On my blog I shared the first line from We Hope for Better Things by Erin Bartels. Here I will share from Secrets at Cedar Cabin by Colleen Coble — “Bailey Fleming glanced out her patient’s window into the parking lot, but the swirling snow obscured all but the dim glow of the streetlamp.”
I’m listening to Erin Bartel’s book when I’m at the office. Will probably finish it today. And Cedar Cabin is also in my January read list!
Woo hoo! My daughter is actually reading Jen’s book right now (before me!) but I’m reading Laura’s and I’ll hop over to Jen next 😉
Hi Suzie! 😀
Hi Beth! I’m finishing ErinBartel’s book today at the office (audio) and then moving to Laura’s after lunch! Happy Friday!
I just purchased this book, and I can’t wait to read it! Happy New Year Suzie!
Happy new year to you too!
I really love reading Jen’s books! Happy Friday! My first line is from “Until I Met You: Brides of Seattle Prequel” by Kimberly Rose Johnson:
“Early Saturday morning, Brandi Prescott held her latte in one hand and opened the door to leave her favorite coffee shop in the Green Lake neighborhood of Seattle.”
I haven’t read anything by this author! Wonder if I can squeeze her in soon!
Happy New Year! I’m sharing the first line of the ‘First January’ diary entry from D.E. Stevenson’s Mrs. Tim of the Regiment on my blog today. So here I’ll share the beginning of the ‘Tenth January’ entry:
“Meet Nora Watt on my way home from church. She has been lying in wait for me. We agree that the sermon was slightly dull, but that the singing has improved. I see Grace hovering about but there is no escape from Nora.”
Happy Friday!
Jen Turano always writes an interesting Gilded Age story. This is another book on my current wish list and I hope to read it soon.
On my blog this week, I’m featuring Laura Frantz’s “The Frontiersman’s Daughter” as my FLF. I’m also reading Mary Connealy’s “Out of Control.” This FLF is:
Colorado Territory
June 23, 1866
“Last time. This is it. Never again.”
Have a good weekend and happy reading.
Happy Friday!
Today, on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Chasing Someday by Crystal Walton. I’m currently on chapter 24, so I will leave the first line from there.
“Chase sat back in one of the wicker chairs Mom insisted he own, cradled his guitar in his lap, and watched the fireflies hail the end of a long day.”
It’s such a good book. I’m loving it.
Hope you have a great weekend filled with relaxing reading time. ❤
I’ve read one new release for the year so far: My Heart Belongs in the Blue Ridge Mountains by Pepper Basham.
I’m featuring a non-fiction book on my blog this week–A Light So Lovely (about Madeleine L’Engle)–but I’m also about to dive into Stratagem by Robin Caroll, so here’s the first line:
“According to your estimation, she has eight minutes to figure out she can’t open the door unless her employee uses the key he got in the last room.”
Have a great weekend!
