This week’s top ten topic is a school freebie. Basically, we can choose any theme we want related to back to school. I thought I’d venture out and share some of the books that were required reading when I was in high school (I graduated in 1991 for reference). We sure were required to read some odd books! And while I can appreciate some of these classics more with age, the only two I enjoyed were A Separate Peace and The Call of the Wild.

I was required to read The Scarlet Letter and Of Mice and Men in school, too.

I remember liking A Separate Peace when it was assigned in freshman English. Of course, we went into it after Lord of the Flies, which I wasn’t thrilled with.
Great list. I read so many of these books and none of them for school except for Romeo and Juliet. Although I grew up in France so we had other required authors and books to read. But I would’ve love to study and discuss in class books like The Handmaid’s Tale and The Scarlett Letter.

Have a great week
I didn’t have to read any of these, but I was less than thrilled with the choice of reading for us at school too. Lord of The Flies was the one I particularly despised, but I didn’t really enjoy any of the choices on our English syllabus.
I had to read The Scarlet Letter as well, I don’t remember any more of these from high school, I remember 1984 and Animal Farm.
An interesting list. I had to read Of Mice And Men and Romeo and Juliet.
Have a great week!
