Kind Words

April 13, 2010 by Suzie Waltner 5 Comments

Every once in a while I love to create a rhyme. When I was little I used to carry around a notebook that I would write poems in (I sure wish I still had that notebook). So, I thought while we are doing this April challenge, I would flex my poetry/rhyming muscles a little as well.

Kind Words

A compliment that is thrown my way

can brighten my most dreary day.

“You look nice” or “I like your hair”

makes some tough times a little easier to bear.

Please, Thank You and My Pleasure are simple ways to be polite

and are are likely to bring sunshine to someone’s day or night.

So take a minute to think before you speak.

Build others up, don’t try to make them feel weak.

Lifting someone up is such and easy thing to do.

But sometimes our kind words are too few.

We are quick to argue and quick to defend

which makes us less likely to allow our attitudes to bend.

Make a point and set a goal

to uplift someone else’s soul.

A kind word or two will uplift someone’s mood

and can make that person feel renewed.

Kind words are like honey–sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.

    I like your poem,
    it made me smile
    and want to go

Quite often, when I find a sad face in the train, I smile at them and say something random like “where did you get that dress- it looks so good on you.” Never fails to bring a smile to their face, and I know that the smile I smile after that lasts all day.
