First Line(s) Friday – Once Upon a Laugh

July 20, 2018 by Suzie Waltner 16 Comments

First Line Friday

Happy Friday, fellow readers. I hope your week was productive and you are ready for the weekend (whether to get some R&R or to have some fun).

No, that is not a typo in the blog title. Today I am featuring the Once Upon a Laugh novella collection, so I’m going to feature the first lines of all eight novellas. This collection is only $0.99 for pre-order (and you won’t have to wait long as it releases Monday). Get this deal now because this collection is only available for a limited time until it’s broken up and you’ll have to purchase each novella separately.

First Line Friday - Once Upon a Laugh

Predictability and order cultivate peace.

-Jane by the Book by Pepper Basham

Once Upon a Laugh

Ruth’s motto had long been you do what you can to survive, but some tips weren’t worth earning.

-Crossed Out by Christina Coryell

Annie Flamingo was late. (Definitely by Heather Gray)

First Line Friday - Once Upon a Laugh

Twenty-eight with no date. Twenty-eight with no date. Twenty-eight with no daaa-ate. You’ll die alone at this rate.”

–Under the Honey Moon by Jessica R. Patch

Once Upon a Laugh

Danielle Littleton stared at her best friend, quite a few words sitting on the tip of her tongue but none that would be helpful or welcome at the moment.

–A (wildly) Wonderful Wedding by Krista Phillips

She had nine cans of green beans, but no sprinkles.

-Save the Last Word by Betsy St. Amant Haddox

Once Upon a Laugh

Two star-crossed lovers, a rickety fire escape, and a whole lot of flashy brass mambo.

-The Long Game by Laurie Tomlinson

Happy Friday! Nine cans of green beans?? I love green beans but I don’t think I’ve ever had nine cans at one time!

My First Lines come from If Ever I Would Leave You by Susan May Warren…….

“Watching you die is the last thing I want to do on a Saturday morning.” Sierra said it in a low mutter, nearly under her breath, but Ian heard it anyway, a slash across his chest, right between the ribs.

Have a great weekend, stay cool, and Happy Reading!

If there were a book about me, it’d start out a lot like the Annie Flamingo one 😉

My first line is from The Lonely Polygamist by Brady Udall. “To put it as simply as possible: this is the story of a polygamist who has an affair.”

    Happy Friday!

Today on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Woman of Clay by Linda Caddick. I’m currently on chapter 11, so I will share the first line from this chapter.

“Spring burst almost overnight in a full palette of brilliant colour, transforming the world into one which barely resembled the one Shana had inhabited just a week or two before.”

Hope you have an excellent weekend filled with great reading time! ❤

Isn’t that the truth! I recently told someone I have FOMO when it comes to books. I don’t want to miss out on the read everyone is talking about 🙂

Looks like a fun bundle of books! On my blog, I’m featuring The Purchased Bride by Kit Morgan. Here, I will share the first line from Chapter Four of that novel. “Herman Mayer wasn’t the brightest or the nicest man around, and he knew it.” Wishing you a great Friday!

    Happy Friday 🙂

I’ll have to add the One Upon a Laugh Novella series to my extensive TBR pile. All eight novella’s sound interesting, but if I had to choose one I would go with Jane By the Book by Pepper Basham.

This week’s FLF is Jen Turano’s A Match of Wits. I’m also reading Roseanna M. White’s Circle of Spies from the Culper Ring Series:

“Marietta Hughes was the worst widow in the history of mourning.”

Hope you have a nice weekend 🙂

    I love this. I’m most anticipating Pepper Basham’s. 😀

I’m sharing about “Trials of the Mighty” by Kenyon T. Henry on the blog today, but I’m currently reading “Unafraid” by Carey Scott. I’ll share the first line of chapter two.

Authentic living. What does it even mean?

Have a great weekend and happy reading!

Those first lines sound like the starts to a fun collection! I’m sharing from A Rebel Heart by Beth White on my blog today, here’s the first line of Chapter 2:

“Spyglass pressed to his good eye, Daughtry crouched behind a tree at the edge of the creek running through Buckner’s Ravine.”

    Happy Friday!

Great title, and it sounds like it’s a great collection. Thanks for sharing!

I’m sharing from Open Circle by Stacy Monson on my blog.

But Then There Was You by Kara Issac has just won the 2018 RITA Award for Romance with Religious or Spiritual Elements from Romance Writers of America, so I’m going to share the first line to celebrate Kara’s win:

Paige McAlister didn’t think think it was possible, but there was something worse than being single and thirty at your nineteen-year-old sister’s wedding.
