First Line Friday: Deadly Intentions

August 9, 2019 by Suzie Waltner 10 Comments

Happy Friday, reader friends! I hope those of you up in Michigan at the Fiction Readers Summit are having a blast!! And how about all the fantastic August releases? Who else is stocked up on romantic suspense for the entire month?

I’m sharing the first line from one of those romantic suspense books this week.

About the Book

Research scientist Caitlyn Lindsey is convinced that someone is taking out her team one by one. First, a friend and research partner was killed in a home invasion. Three months ago, her boss died in a suspicious car accident. Four days ago, another partner supposedly committed suicide. And now Caitlyn herself has miraculously survived a hit-and-run. Afraid for her life with nowhere to turn, she reaches out to one of the victim’s husbands, Detective Josh Solomon.

Though initially skeptical about Caitlyn’s theory, Josh soon realizes that the attack that took his wife’s life was anything but random. Now the two of them must discover the truth about who is after Caitlyn’s team–and what their end game is–before it’s too late.

In this nail-biting thriller, award-winning author Lisa Harris will have you believing that there’s no such thing as random.

Happy Friday! On my blog, I’m featuring More Than Words Can Say, by Karen Witemeyer. Since it’s also my current read, I will share the first line in Chapter 17, “Let her go.” His growled demand echoed through the alleyway as Zach advanced.

I wish you a wonderful weekend.

I’m with Caitlyn! It’s currently winter here in New Zealand, and while it’s not as cold here as it gets some places, it’s more than cold enough for me.

I’m sharing the first line from Catherine West’s latest book over on my blog, As the Light Fades. I know we’re not supposed to judge books by the cover, but this has a great cover and I’m itching to get into it.

    Happy reading!

Happy Friday! Today I’m sharing the first lines from Light From Distant Stars by Shawn Smucker: “Cohen Marah clears his throat quietly, more out of discomfort than the presence of any particular thing that needs clearing, and attempts to step over the body for a second time.”

    Great book by Lisa Harris

My first lines are from Fire Storm by Nancy Mehl

He waits, hidden in the shadows of the tall, stately trees that lined the street. He is the only one who knows that hell has just opened its doors.

I’m totally the opposite. I love the cold!

    Happy Saturday!
Yesterday on my blog I shared the first couple of lines from A Daring Venture by Elizabeth Camden: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/08/08/first-line-friday/. Currently, I am reading The Yellow Lantern by Angie Dicken. I’ll share a line from there.

“A thick cloud of dust hovered on the top of the hill just outside the Bates estate.”

Hope you have a great weekend!
