Katherine Ramsey is determined to find a husband during her first season. Since her cousin and guardian, Sir William Ramsey, took over her father’s estate after his death, Katherine’s only hope for securing a future is to find a husband of wealth and means. She doesn’t expect the constraints and social manipulation that is required for a social season. When a family scandal causes her to be snubbed by society, Katherine volunteers at a clinic in a poor part of London. Working with families in need, and Jon Foster, pulls her focus from herself to others. As her friendship with Jon grows, she is torn between following her hopes for a secure future and following her heart.
Carrie Turansky does it again with a wonderful regency-era story that weaves upper and lower class seamlessly. Points of view from Katherine, Jon Foster, and maid Lydia give the reader insight into many areas of the family. It is also a treat to still get points of view from Julia and William (the main characters in The Governess of Highland Hall). Fans of Downton Abbey or Upstairs Downstairs will enjoy this book
