A devastating explosion.
Three best friends are at the venue just to hear their favorite band . . . but only one of them makes it out alive.
A trunk full of planted evidence.
When police stop Dustin with a warrant to search his trunk, he knows it’s just a mistake. He’s former military and owns a security firm. But he’s horrified when they find explosives, and he can’t fathom how they got there.
An attorney who will risk it all for a friend.
Criminal attorney Jamie Powell was Dustin’s best friend growing up. They haven’t spoken since he left for basic training, but she’s the first one he thinks of when he’s arrested. Jamie knows she’s putting her career on the line by defending an accused terrorist, but she’d never abandon him. Someone is framing Dustin to take the fall for shocking acts of violence . . . but why?

IN MY OPINION
In Aftermath, Terri Blackstock gives readers an intense suspense that could easily be a headline in today’s news.
Taylor is at a concert and political rally with her two friends when it is interrupted by a devastating explosion. Throughout the book, we follow Taylor and her struggle with survivor’s guilt and PTSD.
And while we know Dustin isn’t guilty, only his childhood friend Jamie seems to believe him. As the two work together to prove his innocence, we unearth the discoveries as they do. We also get to know Travis, Dustin’s friend and business partner who is struggling with his wife’s illness.
With these four storylines running throughout the book, the tension remains high and the plot intriguing. Blackstock doesn’t avoid touching on difficult subjects, from the nature of the crime to the after-effects Taylor experiences and the difficulties Dustin and Travis are dealing in saying goodbye to someone they love.
The romance thread is light in this one and doesn’t really come together until the last couple of chapters, but I enjoyed the history Dustin and Jamie share. And the last fifty pages of this story tighten the plot, ups the pace, and puts the final pieces of the puzzle together.
