Every once in a while I like to review some young adult books to see what is out there. I have three nieces and a nephew who are all at the age to read YA books and I am always looking for some good ideas for books that bring a bit of faith into them. When I picked up Fire Prophet by Jerel Law, other than what the cover told me, I had no idea what I would be reading. Turns out, I loved the book!! So much so that I am going to have to purchase and read the first book in the Son of Angels series.
Jonah and Eliza Stone had an adventurous year last year, discovering that they were quarterlings (children of a Nephilim or half-human, half fallen angel) and have some special powers. This year they are looking forward to some normalcy as they head to their first day of school. During their first day of school they are attacked and on the run from the dark fallen angels that want them dead. As the Stone children are brought together with other quarterlings, the children learn to use their special powers in the hidden realm. Will the quarterlings and the angels helping them be able to survive the attacks of Abbadon and his forces who want them and their parents dead?
Reminiscent of Frank Perreti’s early spiritual warfare books, This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, Law’s books examine the warfare that takes place between God’s (Elohim in the book) army of angels and Satan’s (Abbadon) forces. With vivid imagery and non-stop action, Fire Prophet buts a focus on the importance of prayer, being in God’s Word and speaking truth. What an amazing way to strengthen a child’s faith!
****Thomas Nelson Publishing provided me with a free e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review. I was not compensated in any way for this review.
