Book Four in Colleen Coble’s Journey of the Heart Series switches things up a little for the readers. Now that Sarah and Rand have found their HEA (for non-romance readers, that’s Happily Ever After), it’s someone else’s turn.
After her husband of three month’s death, Emmie Croftner finds out she didn’t know him at all. He was already married and had a son. A marriage that was still valid. A marriage that left his first wife with everything Emmie owned except for the clothing she came into the marriage with. She decides to start over in Wyoming where her friend Sarah Montgomery could use her help. When she arrives in Laramie, she finds a difficult life. One that scares her a little but one she’s growing used to. Now if only her heart would quit reacting every time one of the soldiers is near. Isaac Liddle is kind to everyone and she’s got rotten instincts when it comes to men, so why does she care anyway?
Perhaps you recognize Emmie’s last name from the first three books in this serial. Emmie is Ben and Labe Croftner’s little sister and she is nothing like them. With a tender and bruised heart, she’s searching for her a place in life where she feels welcome and cared for. Sarah and Rand provide that a little bit but they have their own lives, their own friends. A Heart’s Betrayal is only the start of Emmie’s journey and I can’t wait to see where it leads her.
