A Great Role Model for Today’s Teenage Girl

January 14, 2012 by Suzie Waltner Leave a Comment

Teenage girls today are surrounded with poor influences and role models. Addy Davidson is someone who girls can both relate to and admire in Krista McGee’s latest book, First Date.

Addy Davidson, a regular (and maybe even a little boring) high school student, is focused on her studies and getting into a good college. One day she is called to the Principal’s office and her world is turned upside down. He has chosen Addy to go on a reality television show in which the winning girl will go to prom with the President’s son.

Resistant at first, Addy just wants to get kicked out of the competition and get back to her life. As the competition continues, however, she forms some great friendships and builds her faith in God as she follows the call to share her faith with those around her. Sometimes she fails miserably but other times she steps out of her comfort zone and shares her faith.

Loosely modeled after the story of Esther, First Date is a great read for Jr. or Sr. high aged girls. McGee does a wonderful job of bringing the reader into the story and rooting for the main character throughout the story.

***Thomas Nelson provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
