Is Love Strong Enough to Overcome the Walls They Hide Behind?
Left waiting at the altar, Claire Simpson has buried her past and moved on, carving out a life for herself as a teacher on the Oregon coast. When her former fiancé appears, he threatens to unravel the peaceful independence she has worked so hard to achieve after their relationship failed.
Montgomery Chandler has moved to NOAA headquarters in Newport, Oregon to make new, happier memories for his children after his wife died of a lingering illness. Their home in Seattle held nothing but the whispers of their earlier lives. Starting over will help all of them heal, but Monty is resolved not to risk love again.
When the handsome widower enrolls his hurting children at the school where Claire teaches, her determination to remain uninvolved vanishes at the whim of a snowstorm. This family needs her expertise. Can she help them without losing her heart?

GUEST POST
Growing up as a PK (that’s “preacher’s kid” for anyone who hasn’t heard the term before), my testimony is pretty basic. I came to have a relationship with Jesus at a young age and, while the relationship has grown deeper over the years, it’s always been there. One thing I enjoy about inspirational fiction is following the faith walks of characters who are just coming to (or coming back to) faith. In the entire Mended Hearts series, Patricia Lee’s characters are at different places with God.
Writing Authentic Faith in Fiction
Too often in fiction the hero or heroine get into trouble, whisper a prayer and all is well. That isn’t real life for most. My characters may have faith in their pasts, but not all are necessarily living that faith in the present.
In Book 1 McKenna has an ongoing struggle with her faith because she believes marriage is sacred but her husband is not making their relationship easy. She clings to what she believes marriage should be, trusting the God of the universe to save it. When circumstances get in the way, she must question what she believes.
In Book 2 Kurt McKintrick is haunted by the death of his best friend who was killed by an explosion in Afghanistan. Kurt’s lament is that his friend had recommitted his life to Christ a week before he was killed. Lissa points out that the friend didn’t just get a week, he gained an eternity.
In Book 3 Claire and Monty have both lost hope in everything and looking to God is not their first thought as they test the new waters of their lives. But the influence of their past experiences with God keeps them walking in a faithful path toward Him even if they don’t recognize His influence.
Readers, how about you? Is there a book you’ve read that connected you to the characters because their faith was similar to your walk?
