Noah pushed off dramatically. Once the door flung open, he barged in front of her, stomped to his bedroom, and slammed his door shut.

He could stay there for all she cared. No dinner. Ungrateful teenager.

Chantelle exhaled and sensed the exhaustion overtake her from the emotional build-up and letdown. She’d already eaten, so she headed for her room also. A desire to slam her door teased her, but she resisted the urge and slowly clicked her door shut. Without turning the light on, she flopped onto her bed, rolled over and buried her face into a pillow.

Muffled prayers came from within her. Lord, help me. This is too hard. Why? I’ve taught him your ways. Why is he set to go in the opposite direction?
