Book Review: Deep Extraction by DiAnn Mills

My Review

What happens when a case hits close?

In Deep Extraction by DiAnn, that’s the exact question FBI Special Agent Tori Templeton and reinstated Deputy US Marshal Cole Jeffers wrestle with as they investigate a murder.

As the two uncover unbelievable hidden truths about a man they called friend, they struggle with the possibility a member of his family might have killed him. Not to mention the growing attraction between Tori and Cole.

Both of these characters are tough, no-nonsense law enforcement agents but both also have fears they deal with daily.

The body count rises without a break in the case which keeps the FBI task force (as well as readers) scrambling to find the answer.  I loved that there were a couple extra surprises at the end of the book.

My Review

In a story that is not only relevant to the dangers facing travels in foreign countries today, Lisa Harris allows readers to experience both the beauty and the dangers of the Africa in Desert Secrets.

I loved both of these characters so much. While Lexi Shannon is put in a position that leaves her vulnerable over and over again, she is also tenacious and brave. She has a good heart and that shows through over and over again. And Colton Landry…let’s just sigh here at this hero. A man who is determined to not only to keep his brother-in-law safe but also who refuses to leave Lexi behind.

About the Book

NO SAFE HAVEN

Arriving at her secluded cabin to find her brother missing, Olivia Kendricks follows his trail into the woods—until two shooters take aim at her. She only escapes when ex-detective Zachary Long, her brother’s friend—and Olivia’s first love—comes to her rescue. Now as they run for their lives in the snowbound wilderness, they must search for her brother while figuring out why someone wants them dead. And though Zach’s police force training may be what will save them, it’s also what once drove them apart when he gave Olivia up to chase his dream. In a freezing landscape as deadly as it is beautiful, they’ll have to let go of the past…and face down powerful men willing to kill to keep secrets buried.

My two cents

Some residents of Gideon, OR are having incredibly bad luck. Or maybe it’s outsiders bringing it to town. Either way, buckle up for another thrill ride through the beauty and harshness of the Rogue River Wilderness area as Olivia and Zack fight for their lives.

From the first pages, as Oliva finds a trail of blood in the snow, I was swept into this story. Goddard writes in such a way that the cold of the snow and blizzard seeped into me as I went along for the ride. But the heart of this story lies in regrets.

Olivia has been estranged from her brother for three years and now doesn’t know if she’ll ever see him again. Zack’s decision to follow the rules cost him dearly. So much so that years later, he’s decided to give up his job. And both of them made a choice that ended their relationship ten years ago.

When they not running from the people trying to kill them or trying to unravel what information Olivia’s brother has, their time together causes both of them to reflect on their past mistakes. And maybe, if they can survive, instead of looking over their shoulders at the past, they can walk forward into a promising future.

About the book

Casey Cox is still on the run, fleeing prosecution for a murder she didn’t commit. Dylan Roberts—her most relentless pursuer—is still on her trail, but his secret emails insist that he knows the truth and wants to help her. He’s let her escape before when he had her in his grasp, but trust doesn’t come easily.

As Casey works to collect evidence about the real murderers, she stumbles on another unbearable injustice: an abused child and a suicidal man who’s also been falsely accused. Casey risks her own safety to right this wrong and protect the little girl from her tormenters. But doing so is risky and just may result in her capture—and if she’s captured, she has no doubt she’ll be murdered before she ever steps foot in a jail.

In this riveting sequel to the USA Today bestseller If I Run, evil lurks, drawing Casey out of the shadows . . . but there is light shining in the darkness. Is Dylan a provision from the God who loves her, or another heartache yet to happen?

My thoughts

Most nights, I fall asleep reading a book. But once in a while, a story comes along that pulls me in so deeply, I forget about rest. I want to know what happens next.

If I’m Found by Terri Blackstock was one of those books. I could not put it down and finished it in one night.

Readers meet Casey Cox in the first book, If I Run. A young woman who flees the scene of the murder of her best friend. We also learned how intelligent Casey is and got a peek of her tender heart toward injustice.

Now, as Casey continues to hide from people who will surely kill her when/if they do find her, she works to uncover the truth of who killed her friend. She’s on her own with no one to trust. Though she wants to trust Dylan Roberts. The PI who found her but let her go.

Blackstock once again takes readers on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Through discoveries and close calls—a little too close for comfort sometimes—readers follow Casey through difficult choices, a little depression and glimpses of hope. Through it all, she remains true to herself. A suspense that left me on the edge of my seat, up late at night, and wanting more.

What’s the release date for the next book in the series?

Saved by the SEAL by Susan Sleeman

The tragedy that killed Bree Hatfield’s best friends—and left her with custody of their young daughter—has been ruled an accident. But Bree knows it was murder. My thoughts

Know what I love better than a good story? TWO good stories, and Her Baby’s Protector delivers. This book contains two novellas by two romantic suspense authors who kept be involved and turning the pages. As if an adorable baby in each story wasn’t enough to keep my interest, there’s also the rugged men whose hearts are melted by the children as they’re falling for the mothers.

My favorite of the two stories was Saved by the SEAL by Susan Sleeman. From the harrowing first line, I was drawn into this story and the lineup of suspects kept me guessing who was behind the crimes until the end of the book. While Bree and Clint investigate the murder of Bree’s friends, they must navigate the emotional mines of their past and their current feelings for each other. With a story that defines suspense until the very last chapter, Sleeman delivers another winner.
