ESV Illuminated Bible (Review & Giveaway)

In My Opinion (Review)

In addition to my normal book reviews, with the approach of the holidays, I hoped to highlight some other products that would make good gifts for those hard to shop for family and friends. The ESV Illuminated Bible was presented to me at just the right time. And I’m giving one away to one of my blog visitors so be sure and stay tuned to find out how to enter.

A bit of an anecdote for you before I show you this gorgeous Bible. This week, I checked my mail and in my box was a scrap of paper. The postman had written on it that I had a package in the office but it had opened in shipping and could not be scanned.

I took the paper into the office and handed it to one of the workers. He was a little surprised and said, “Is this what they gave you?”

I told him I thought they just wanted me to know the package was opened. A few minutes later, the guy brings my package to me and says, “That looks really cool. I peeked at it.” This is what he saw.

I have to agree, it does look really cool but when I opened it, it became even more so. The wide margins for notes along with beautiful illustration and graphic verses is ideal for either journaling or taking sermon notes alongside the text. There’s an index of all of the artwork at the back of the Bible as well.

Experience the Bible in a Unique Way

When I was in college, a guy named Eugene Peterson translated some of the Bible (the new testament and Psalms) into modern-day language. I enjoy reading The Message in order to get a different perspective on passages that I’ve heard and read several times over the years.

the message 100

Now anyone who would like their devotions tweaked a little bit more can read The Message 100. Broken down into 100 devotions, this book is written in chronological order. With insights into each passage, updated language, and Biblical passages combined to give a complete picture of the story, readers can study God’s word in a fresh and unique way.

While The Message 100 is a great devotional tool, it is a little difficult to find specific passages. This is not something you’ll want to take to church and follow along with during the sermon. This book is designed to be a study tool, to enhance your devotional experience, and perhaps point out some ideas and points you may not have known before.

With the holidays approaching, this might be a great gift for someone who plans to delve into God’s word in 2016.
