Pursued (Nikki Boyd #3) by Lisa Harris

Pursued by Lisa Harris

My Review

Nikki Boyd is back and what an entrance she makes!

From the first pages, I was drawn into this story. At the end of Missing, readers were left with the question of what would happen between Nikki and Tyler. And we’re still wondering about it as Nikki’s plane heads toward Nashville—and Tyler. But what is supposed to be a tender homecoming quickly turns into a case when the woman who was sitting next to Nikki on the plane disappears.

Lisa Harris sends readers on an action-packed, high-intensity chase through Nashville and some rural areas of Tennessee as the rush to find the woman. As more facts come to light, Nikki can’t help but wonder why the FBI isn’t giving her all the facts.

I love this character. Nikki is a tough agent but she’s also human. In Pursued, her personal life encroaches on her career and she has to deal with both. Isn’t that the way life goes sometimes?

A well-written, page turning, high-stakes adventure awaits readers who pick up a copy of Pursued.

More about the book

Nikki Boyd’s flight into Nashville was routine–up until the crash landing at the airport. When the dust settles, Nikki discovers that the woman who had been seated next to her on the plane is missing–and no one will admit she was ever there. Erika Hamilton had been flying to Nashville with an air marshal as a key witness in an upcoming grand jury trial. When she flees from the crash, is she running from trouble or straight into it? Before Nikki can even see her family, she and her team are pulled into a missing persons case where the motives are as unclear as the suspects.

Bestselling and award-winning author Lisa Harris has planted danger around every turn in this can’t-put-it-down thrill ride that will leave readers stunned.

My Review

In a story that is not only relevant to the dangers facing travels in foreign countries today, Lisa Harris allows readers to experience both the beauty and the dangers of the Africa in Desert Secrets.

I loved both of these characters so much. While Lexi Shannon is put in a position that leaves her vulnerable over and over again, she is also tenacious and brave. She has a good heart and that shows through over and over again. And Colton Landry…let’s just sigh here at this hero. A man who is determined to not only to keep his brother-in-law safe but also who refuses to leave Lexi behind.

As this group finds themselves in precarious situations over and over again (loads of action and high tension in this book between kidnappings, rescues, car chases, and more), it’s their faith in God and each other that keeps them going.

A fantastic, fast-paced story from Mali to the Sahara to Morocco (and even Ireland). Don’t miss the action-packed adventure in Desert Secrets.

Book Review: Life After by Katie Ganshert

Life After

Katie Ganshert

Available 4/18/17

My review

This story. Wow! There is so much I want to say about this book, so many things I want you to know but at the same time, I want readers to experience it for themselves. Katie Ganshert has outdone herself with this one.

After the tragedy on the tracks, life for many Chicagoans is now defined as before and after. As Autumn Manning, the sole survivor grapples with the why of her life, she is haunted by twenty-two ghosts. Ghosts of those who she believes should have lived instead of her.

And then there’s Paul, Reese, and Tate Elliott. A family who lost one member during the attack. But the before is not the same for all of them. Tate doesn’t have many memories of his mom, Reese wants to change hers, and Paul wrestles with the truth behind his marriage.

When Autumn and the Elliotts’ paths cross, there are moments. Moments of laughter, moments of hope, moments when they forget the tragedy and focus on life. As these four try to make sense of the tragedy, to put the before behind them, there is a small glimpse into the future. One that, while loss and grief are a part of life for many, it doesn’t have to be something that defines them.

Another beautiful, poignant story from Katie Ganshert that had me wanting to stay with Autumn and the Elliott family long after the last page, to follow them into what I hope is happiness and joy despite the pain they all have suffered.

Loop train riding above a street in Chicago

It could have been me.

Snow whirls around an elevated train platform in Chicago. A distracted woman boards the train, takes her seat, and moments later a fiery explosion rips through the frigid air, tearing the car apart in a horrific attack on the city’s transit system. One life is spared. Twenty-two are lost.

A year later, Autumn Manning can’t remember the day of the bombing and she is tormented by grief—by guilt. Twelve months of the question constantly echoing. Why? Why? Why? Searching for answers, she haunts the lives of the victims, unable to rest.

Paul Elliott lost his wife in the train bombing and wants to let the dead rest in peace, undisturbed and unable to cause more pain for his loved ones. He wants normalcy for his twelve-year-old daughter and young son, to see them move beyond the heartbreak. But when the Elliotts and Autumn are unexpectedly forced together, he fears she’ll bring more wreckage in her wake.

About the Book

When she discovers charming, charismatic barista Nate—otherwise known as “Señor Fabulous”—she knows God’s led her to exactly what she needs. Can Gretchen woo Nate away from his current spot at Higher Grounds Cafe? What if landing the barista her company needs might cost her the man who’s already stolen her heart?

My review

If you’ve read any of Allie Pleiter’s Love Inspired books but not any of her “Sweet City Hearts” series, you’re in for a treat. Nothing Less than Fabulous is a good way to introduce yourself to the series that’s a little different than the Love Inspired formula. The biggest difference? First person POV (point of view). The entire story is told from Gretchen’s perspective

While characters from the previous book in the series make an appearance, this novella stands alone. Even if you start from the back of the series, you’re not going to be lost. In fact, you might enjoy the story so much, you want to read the previous books after this fun novella.

Gretchen finds herself in quite the predicament—save her job or save her relationship. As she gets to know Senor Fabulous (aka Nate), she discovers things about herself as well. A sweet story with lots of coffee, a mountain of whipped cream, humor, and heart.

About the Book

NO SAFE HAVEN

Arriving at her secluded cabin to find her brother missing, Olivia Kendricks follows his trail into the woods—until two shooters take aim at her. She only escapes when ex-detective Zachary Long, her brother’s friend—and Olivia’s first love—comes to her rescue. Now as they run for their lives in the snowbound wilderness, they must search for her brother while figuring out why someone wants them dead. And though Zach’s police force training may be what will save them, it’s also what once drove them apart when he gave Olivia up to chase his dream. In a freezing landscape as deadly as it is beautiful, they’ll have to let go of the past…and face down powerful men willing to kill to keep secrets buried.

My two cents

Some residents of Gideon, OR are having incredibly bad luck. Or maybe it’s outsiders bringing it to town. Either way, buckle up for another thrill ride through the beauty and harshness of the Rogue River Wilderness area as Olivia and Zack fight for their lives.

From the first pages, as Oliva finds a trail of blood in the snow, I was swept into this story. Goddard writes in such a way that the cold of the snow and blizzard seeped into me as I went along for the ride. But the heart of this story lies in regrets.

Olivia has been estranged from her brother for three years and now doesn’t know if she’ll ever see him again. Zack’s decision to follow the rules cost him dearly. So much so that years later, he’s decided to give up his job. And both of them made a choice that ended their relationship ten years ago.

When they not running from the people trying to kill them or trying to unravel what information Olivia’s brother has, their time together causes both of them to reflect on their past mistakes. And maybe, if they can survive, instead of looking over their shoulders at the past, they can walk forward into a promising future.
